With the objective of strengthening the spaces for communication and articulation between CATA, the region’s tourism sector and the target markets in Europe, CD-CATA decided to open a Central American Regional Headquarters for CATA in December 2014, which in its incipient state, worked from the facilities of the Secretariat of Central American Tourism Integration (SITCA) in Managua, Nicaragua, until reaching the necessary strength to be installed in El Salvador, by mandate of the Council, since April 2016.
On August 25, 2016, CATA officially opened the doors of its Regional Headquarters operating in the facilities of the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SG-SICA). Dr. Victoria Marina Velásquez de Avilés – Secretary of SG-SICA, Mr. Jorge Macías – representing the PPT – Nicaragua, Mr. José Napoleón Duarte – Minister of Tourism of El Salvador and member of the Central American Council of Tourism Ministers (CCT), and Mrs. Beatriz de Flamenco – President of the Central American Federation of Tourism Chambers (FEDECATUR), attended the event to celebrate this important milestone.
Mrs. Ana Carolina Briones Pereyra, CATA’s Secretary General, addressed the distinguished guests, including Ambassadors from Central American and European countries accredited in El Salvador, representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations, donor community, Secretaries of SICA, representatives of the Government of El Salvador and the media, to thank for hospitality of the people and Government of El Salvador, as well as the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System for their support on this effort to unify and strengthen an entity that seeks and works for the promotion of our values as a region through tourism.
