On this occasion El Salvador has the pleasure of hosting one of the most renowned events for the tourism sector in Central America. The XI Edition of the Central America Travel Market (CATM) Fair will be held from October 6 to 8 in San Salvador, during which the country will promote its touristic offers through the multi-destination promotion the region offers. This year El Salvador is again the center of the tourism fair after ten editions.
The event is organized, carried out and promoted mainly by the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation, CORSATUR and CASATUR, the Salvadoran Chamber of Tourism, as well as the Federation of Central American Chambers of Tourism, FEDECATUR, national authorities and the Central American Tourism Association, CATA. The X Edition was hosted in Costa Rica in 2014.
The numbers reveal that in 2016 Central America received 21.4 million visitors, reaching a 6.5% increase compared to 2015.
José Napoleón Duarte, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador stated, “Our expectations are to continue positioning the multi-destination in priority markets such as Europe and continue increasing the flow of tourists to the region”. Preliminarily, 100 businessmen and women are expected to attend from throughout the region.
Carolina Briones, Secretary General of CATA commented “This fair is a window of the high quality tourism available in Central America. 20 media companies will be present as well as 80 Tour wholesale Operators from the European market and for the first time 10 wholesalers from Taiwan will participate”. The European wholesalers are mainly from Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany.
Through the Central America Travel Market (CATM) there will be a wide exhibition of the Central American cultural heritage, starting with pre-columbine civilizations, among them Maya, as well as afro Caribbean, which have through the last centuries. The coastal attraction, volcanoes, lakes and colonial cities all turn into an irresistible touristic offer for those who wish to visit the Caribbean tropic and Central America
