Central America received 15.7 million tourists in 2015; more than 1.02 million visitors compared to 2014. It is home to ancient cultures whose history can still be felt in the magic and tradition present in the souls of its people and in its 18 cultural and natural treasures declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. In between these destinations full of history and mystique, nature and business possibilities, borders for tourists no longer exist. The region also prides itself in its constant commitment to reach responsible and sustainable tourism practices.

The region’s prominent features such as archaeological treasures, colonial cities and natural reserves are coined in three different regional tourism offers: #DestinationMysticism&History, #DestinationNature and #DestinationBusiness. This new concept brings the region together as one.

Colonial Antigua, in Guatemala; the Mayan ruins of Copán in Honduras; the beautiful city of León Viejo in Nicaragua; the pristine Reserve of the Talamanca mountain range in Costa Rica; or the Pompeii of the Americas, Joya de Cerén, in El Salvador. These are but a few Central American landmarks waiting to discovered.

70 hard corals species, 36 soft corals species

The natural wealth of Central America is unmatched. The region, represents 1% of the globe’s surface area, and hosts 8% of all existing biodiversity; Pico Bonito National Park in Honduras, is one of 107 protected areas covering almost one fourth of the country; which has the highest biodiversity in Central America.

Belize, has a barrier reef reserves system, which consists of seven marine reserves, 450 cays, and three atolls, you’ll be able to find 70 hard corals species, 36 soft coral species, 500 species of fish and hundreds of invertebrates.

Central American nature is unlike any other. It is where 18 active volcanoes, the best beaches in the world, the northern hemisphere’s largest barrier reef, and more species of butterflies than the entire African continent coesxist.

Montecristo tri-national

Montecristo tri-national, is a strategy that will work closely with governments from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras as well as the support of local communities. Central America has a deep and great commitment to diversity, and because of this, the region is working to further develop initiatives and projects for the conservation and protection of water resources, biodiversity resources, and environments.

The Pavilion of the Central American Isthmus in WTM

Central America will have its flag in one of the most important fairs for the tourism industry, The World Travel Market (WTM); the isthmus will welcome the market presenting their original regional tourism offer during the fair which will be held in the city of London, England on November 7th, 8th and 9th.
