CATA, the agency in charge of the promotion and positioning of Central America as a regional touristic destination on an international level, will work with the global communication consultant, ATREVIA.
ATREVIA won the public competition held by CATA in July and will be in charge of promoting tourism in Central America by reaching its priority European markets: France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Spain.
«We want Central America to be top of mind when our target markets think of visiting a destination» said Javier Medrano, CEO of ATREVIA Central America; «we feel grateful and honored to be who our countries are counting on to attract tourism to the region», he added.
«CATA has the task of contributing to the significant growth of tourism in the region; through actions of promotion and positioning internationally we want to market Central America in a way that increases its recognition as a regional destination in an innovative and diverse manner» said Carolina Briones, CATA’s General Secretariat, «the incorporation of ATREVIA to CATA’s team will contribute greatly to achieve the goals that we have been working on».
According to the «UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2015 Edition», that summarizes the main statistics on world tourism, elaborated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, tourism continues to be one of the main industries in the world that has more growth. America as a continent has received 181 million of tourists, which means a growth of the 8% more than the previous year. Central America grew by 6%, highlighting growth in Guatemala and Belize (both with 9%) Nicaragua (8%), and Panama and El Salvador (both with 4%).
«Entering Central America, means taking in its exoticism and its people’s smiles while experiencing the great diversity of touristic and cultural activities that the countries of the isthmus offer», emphasized Briones, «the seven countries of Central America are home to 8% of the world’s biodiversity within only 1% of its surface area».
ATREVIA expects to enhance touristic growth in the region, building on the pillars of cultural and natural tourism.
